Our garden was officially opened by the Mayor of Wakefield on October 3rd 2021.
The original plan which was presented to us by Jackie Dean back in 2018. At that time the NHS were promoting the five ways to wellbeing at the community centre. We already had a thriving garden club and mini-plots so the idea to create a recreational and sensory garden in the unused space which was the bottom carpark was quite appealing.
The plan was submitted to the council who gave us a grant to complete the groundworks, the site was cleared in October 2019 and work began early in 2020 and was completed in April 2020, just before the pandemic.
Plans to build a covered seating area took just under another year because of Government restrictions and the pergola was finally erected in February 2021.
The garden is maintained by the garden club who have worked on the project since it started.
